Keeping Schools Clean: What It Means for Future Generations

Back-to-school season brings the excitement of new school supplies, new teachers, reuniting with friends, sharing stories about summer, and … sharing germs.

According to the CDC, each child will catch 8-12 colds or cases of the flu each school year. But an unclean learning environment can result in more than just a few colds. It can mean a lesson missed because the teacher had to take a couple of sick days. It could mean focus lost during the day because a student just wasn’t feeling well. It could even mean the spread of a serious illness that could cause several other students to be absent from school.

When a child comes home from school sniffling their nose or complaining about an upset stomach, it’s hard not to wonder just how they got sick during the day. They were feeling just fine when they left the house that morning … what changed over the course of the day to flip their immune system upside down?

The answer is the environment. The germs we encounter affect so much more than the eye can see. Whether they were picked up after sitting on the floor for a class activity, taking a pencil from a friend’s hand, or throwing away litter found in the hallway, those germs can easily take over a classroom without proper attention and cleaning.

At 3 p.m. when the last bell rings, students are anxious to leave the building and teachers are finally taking a seat at their desk to get some last minute planning done. The last thing anyone is thinking about is the cleanliness of the classrooms. This is where professional cleaners and their fleet of commercial cleaning equipment come in. It’s the job of the devoted custodian and their appropriate equipment to ensure the environment these students learn in provides the most sanitized surfaces and the highest air quality for them to stay healthy and focused.

You may not be able to stop the spread of germs between people or what they bring with them to school, but professional cleaners can take a giant step towards a providing a cleaner learning environment.
